Pre-Purchase Checklists
Buying an aircraft, a boat or an imported classic car means checks that a dealer car never needs: the right registers, the right inspections and paperwork lenders and insurers will ask for. Work through the checklist for your purchase, tick items off as you go, then print it or email yourself a copy. Your ticks stay on this device.
Using the pre-purchase checklists
Choose the checklist for an aircraft, a boat or an imported classic car.
Work through the registers, searches, inspections and import steps for that asset.
Tick items off as you go and email yourself a copy to keep.
Bring the completed checklist to your finance conversation, so lender questions are easier to answer.
What it doesn’t include
Legal, engineering or import advice; use qualified professionals for inspections and compliance.
Every requirement for every asset; lender and regulator requirements change.
Confirmation that an asset is free of debt; a PPSR search is the place to check that.
Questions people ask
Why do I need a PPSR search?
A PPSR search shows whether money is owed on the asset, and whether it has been recorded as stolen or written off. Finance owed by a previous owner can stay attached to the asset.
Do lenders need an inspection or valuation?
Often, for aircraft, larger boats and classic cars. Requirements depend on the lender, the asset and the amount financed.
Can I finance an imported classic car?
Some lenders will, once the car is in Australia and meets import and registration requirements. Timing matters, so plan the finance alongside the import steps.
Can I finance an aircraft or boat bought privately?
Some lenders finance private sales, subject to checks on ownership, registration, condition and value.
